‘Memory’ is the most priced possession of human existence. Everything fades away, the happiness, the sadness, the struggles, the achievements, yet all one is left with at the end are bitter-sweet memories. What if these memories also fade away? All you would have is a body and a confused soul with no idea about your existence. This terrifying situation is indeed a reality that manifests itself in the form of a Disease-Alzheimer.
Alzheimer can be termed as ‘deadly’ in the sense that the damage it causes to the brain is irreversible as well as incurable. It not only destroys a person’s memory and their thinking ability but also handicaps them from performing daily tasks effectively. Its deep reaching impacts are not just limited to inflicting mental stress upon the person suffering from the disease but also reaches further by impacting the lives of the people associated with the affected person. The lack of awareness regarding the disease prevents people from getting it detected at an early stage. The symptoms include memory loss, forgetfulness, problems with vision, word finding etc. The impact of the disease are serious yet the awareness is minimal. For this reason, World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated on 21 st September to celebrate memories because memories are worth fighting for! The causes of Alzheimer ranges from a combination of genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors. We must, therefore enjoy each moment and cherish each memory because this infinite gift of happiness may not stay with us as long as we live.
